According to a new certification from the China Quality Certification Centre, a regulatory body in China, all iPhone 16 models are capable of supporting up to 45W of wired fast charging through the USB-C port.
Update:
Ice Universe has shared on X that in actual usage, the true charging speed is around 39W rather than the full 45W as revealed in the certification. This still represents a significant improvement from previous iPhones, though not as much as one might have hoped. The original post continues below:
As noticed by ShrimpApplePro on X, this certification indicates that all iPhone 16 models are tested at 5-15 volts and 3 amps, which amounts to up to 45 watts. This is much faster than the iPhone 15 lineup, which maxed out at 27-29W and never quite reached 30W.
Earlier rumors had suggested that the iPhone 16 models would support faster charging, although Apple never officially commented on the wired charging speed of the newer iPhones. They did mention that MagSafe can now deliver up to 25W when paired with the right power adapter, but nothing about wired charging.
This isn’t overly surprising given that Apple typically doesn’t comment on wired charging. For instance, iPhones have been capable of charging at over 25W for quite some time now, nearing 30W. However, Apple has only officially stated that you can fast charge your iPhone with a 20W USB-C brick.
Apple unveiled the iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Pro on Monday, and preorders officially began on Friday. The phones will start being delivered to customers on September 20th. The phones feature a number of elements, including a new Camera Caption button, larger displays on the Pro models, and Apple refers to them as their first phones designed for Apple Intelligence.
